3rd Phase of Project Management
The Finish Phase of project management is a critical one. It is the time to wrap up all loose ends, close the project, and transition to the next phase.
Key Activities
- Completing all project deliverables, including delivering the final product, service, or result to the customer and documentation.
- Closing all project contracts, collecting all payments, and releasing teams and vendors from their obligations.
- Collecting feedback from the customer to improve the project process to ensure future projects are more successful.
- Documenting the project lessons learned to help future project teams avoid making the same mistakes.
- Celebrating the project’s success to thank the team for their hard work and recognize their contributions. Also thanking external and internal stakeholders for their ongoing support.
Project Deliverables
Purpose
The purpose project management deliverables include a Requirements List 100% complete, STAR (situation, task, action, results) Report, and a Phase Gate Review Report.
Time
The time project management deliverables include a Project Plan and Roadmap 100% complete.
People
The people project management deliverables include a Release Report of Resources, Stakeholders, and Vendors.
Money
The money project management deliverables include a Cost Burndown Chart 100% complete, Contracts Finalized, Agreements Closed, Bills Paid, etc.
Communications
The communications project management deliverables include a Close-Out Report, Executive Summary, Storyboard, Infographics, and Final Formal Communications.
Metrics
The metrics project management deliverables include a 100% complete Dashboard and Status Report, with all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) being met.
RIDAC
The RIDAC (risks, issues, decisions, actions, and changes) project management deliverables include Logs 100% complete, Lessons Learned Document, and Best Practices Document.
The Finish Phase is a time to transition to the project’s next phase. This could be the start of a new project or the beginning of the maintenance or support phase for the current project. By following these actions, you can ensure that this final phase of your project is a success.
